Worship God

“God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in Spirit and in truth.”
John 4:24…Worship is an essential part of the Christian walk. It’s a way of life that goes beyond music. Today’s blog entry deals with worship.

“Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment.”
– Matthew 22:37-38

God should be Number 1 in all of our lives. We should love Him more than everything/everybody else. Our actions and everyday life should reflect our love for God. Romans 6:16 says “Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants are ye to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death or of obedience unto righteousness.” In order to worship God, we need to be obedient to God. We need to understand what His Word says, and follow His instructions. We should be renewing our minds, and putting God’s will above our own. As it says in John 14:15, “If ye love me, keep my commandments”.

We should consistently spend time reading our bible, and praying. Reading the Bible helps us get an understanding of God’s character, and the things that He desires for us to do (2 Timothy 2:15 says “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word.”). Praying allows to us communicate with God, and express our love and thankfulness to Him (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 says “Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”).

It’s important that we do not allow ourselves to become dominated by the cares of this world. We should not let society/pop culture to dictate to us what is/isn’t acceptable. Instead we should do what Colossians 3:15-16 says “And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”

We should have a desire to continually to grow in our relationship with Jesus Christ, and be more like Him everyday. We should live a lifestyle that’s pleasing to Him. We shouldn’t allow the fear of how we will be perceived by others to stop us from worshiping God.

“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as unto the Lord, and not unto men: Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.” Colossians 3:23-24
