You Are Different

“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;” – 1 Peter 2:9… Today’s blog entry is titled “You Are Different”.

As born again Christians, it’s important for us to realize that we should live our lives in a way that glorifies Jesus Christ. We live in a fallen world, and there are many people that live lifestyles that are contrary to the Word of God. With this being said, there can sometimes be a tendency to want to fit in with the “majority of people” (at school, on the job, and in life in general). However, we should never compromise the truth of God’s word in order to fit in. We shouldn’t give into pressure from our peers to do sinful things. We should stand on the Word of God, and proudly represent Jesus Christ. In some situations this may result in you being the odd person out (which can be difficult), however remember that God will never leave you nor forsake you (See Hebrews 13:5). Rely upon Jesus Christ, to get you through any challenges that you may face.

The mindset that we approach life with can play a huge role in the way we live our lives; so it’s good for us to examine ourselves and look at our priorities. If a person places a higher value on what their family/friends (and other people in general) think of them than what God thinks of them, that’s a big problem. The Word of God should influence us more than any person does. It’s understandable to want to be liked by people, however it’s important not to fall apart if/when people don’t like us.

“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” – 2 Corinthians 5:17

If you are a person that has recently gotten saved, you may encounter some family/friends (and other people) that are not happy with your change. They may even try to bring up things that you have done in your past to try to make you feel guilty. However, it’s important to realize that you are a new creature in Jesus Christ. Don’t allow people to make you feel bad, stay focused on Jesus Christ, and carry out His will for your life.

If you are a person that has been saved for a long time, don’t allow people to make feel like you’ve missed out on things in life. Sin has pleasure for a season (See Hebrews 11:25), but the wages of sin is death (See Romans 6:23). Following Jesus Christ is the best decision you could ever make. God provides us with peace that passes all understanding (See Philippians 4:7).

As we continue to grow in our walk with Jesus Christ, let us remember that we should be leading people to Christ (and not allowing people to influence in a negative way). Don’t be afraid to be different. Be the person that God has called you to be.

“For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.” – 1 Corinthians 6:20
