Being prideful can lead a lot of issues/problems in life. It can cause a person to overlook changes in their life that they should be making. It can cause a person to not accept help when they need it. As Christians, it’s important for us to be led by God. When He shows us things in our lives that we need to change, we shouldn’t ignore it, we should acknowledge it, repent, and ask Him to help us make the necessary changes.
“The pride of thine heart hath deceived thee, thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high; that saith in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground? Though thou exalt thyself as the eagle, and though thou set thy nest among the stars, thence will I bring thee down, saith the Lord.” – Obadiah 1:3-4
“But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.” – James 4:6
Regardless of how well we feel things are going for us in life, it’s important to remember that it is God who has blessed us with abilities/gifts. He is the One who created us, and we should always live to please Him. In the world we live in, the wrong things are often emphasized. A lot of people are focused on earthly status, material things, etc. However those things can be taken away quickly…Look at the story of Nebuchadnezzar in Bible. He was very prideful and went from living like a King to living like an animal. See Daniel 3:28-33.
For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. – 1 John 2:16
Being prideful can lead to a lot of unnecessary problems that we otherwise could have avoided. However when we are humble, and submitted to God, we can make a lot of progress and accomplish the things that God has called us to do. This isn’t to say that we won’t still have challenges along the way, but when we are in God’s will, we can take comfort in the fact that He will help us overcome the challenges that we face. So as we continue to grow in our Christian walk, let us remember to walk in humility and live a lifestyle that glorifies Jesus Christ.
“For not he that commendeth himself is approved, but whom the Lord commendeth.” - 2 Corinthians 2:18
