It's Important To Keep Our Emotions In Check

“He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly.” – Proverbs 14:29

Sometimes there are things that happen in our lives that can really irritate/frustrate us, or make us angry. With this being said, it’s so important that we do not allow the words of other people or our circumstances to control the way we act. An important thing to remember is that “….we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” -Ephesians 6:12…. The devil is here to kill, still, and destroy, and he gladly tries to use other people to attack you. If the devil can use another individual to tempt you to slip up and do/say something out of character, then please believe he will try. The enemy wants to take away the credibility of Christians to discourage people who are currently non-Christians from coming to the faith. I even heard a quote that went something like this, “I would have become a Christian until I met one”. This should not be the case. We need to make a constant effort to show other people the love of Christ.

“Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath.” – James 2:19

We all make mistakes (I know I’ve made many- “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” – Romans 3:23), but we should really make a conscience effort to have good temperance. It’s not necessarily always wise to say the first thing that comes to your mind after someone has aggravated you. Remember, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue; and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.”-Proverbs 18:21. It’s important to meditate on God’s Word on a daily basis. When you pray and read the Word of God (and know the Word of God), you are better equipped to handle the trials and tribulations that come your way. In Matthew chapter 4, when the devil came to tempt Jesus, Jesus responded by speaking the Word. Jesus kept His cool, spoke the Word, and the devil eventually left Him. It’s important that we follow Jesus’ example.
